Vim Overview

Vim is free and can be used in pretty much any Linux distro, so is essential if you want to ssh into remote environments. VIM is like a multipurpose tool, that can be useful to many different profiles. Vim’s difficult to learn, but when you have a minimum level, you improve your productivity progressively. When you understand their functionalities and shortcuts you can work faster and better. Basically, with Vim you can edit configuration files of servers, read logs or compare files.

Vim can be pretty much installed anywhere that you could possibly ever code. After that, the application also offers a high level of customization for more advanced users. There is not much to dislike about vim, as it serves its purpose of being a lightweight, flexible text editor pretty well. But, there is a higher learning curve in the beginning when compared to something like Sublime Text.

The problem that can be solved with Vim is the ability to reliably code anywhere, including on environments. But, most of all, it’s their precise text editing mode and movements.
