Global Mapper Overview

Global Mapper is a cost-effective way to manage, clip, and even process imagery products like Google Earth Pro. Users can be used this early on to solve some Image Tiling issues that no other software would solve. With a little help from the design, team users were able to come up with a script that allowed users to accomplish the goal set out to complete. But, the interface of Global Mapper is a little different from other products like ArcGIS or Google Earth Pro, so it takes a bit of time to get used to.

Global Mapper offers the ability to look and interpret 3D terrain data. It handles LiDAR files with ease and is quicker to terrain-related problems than ArcGIS. LiDAR data is easy to manage within Global Mapper. If you need to perform a GIS system on terrain data, Global Mapper works very well for that. But the application can’t handle geodatabases such as FGDB or FGDB but it can handle SHP files.

Global Mapper is alternatives or a cheaper solution to ArcGIS, although not as expansive as Arc, it can handle quite a bit of the day-to-day GIS duties. It is easier and quicker to use than some compatible functions. If there is a need to use visualize elevation data, then Global Mapper is the way to go. But Global Mapper has the software that is better with terrain data than ArcGIS.
